I don’t think most people will read bigger tweets anyway, as they barely read headlines as it is (or even a 280 character tweet well enough to often respond well). That said, I do fear the ‘wall of text’ aspect if it gets abused. The original character length used to be 140 characters for a tweet as Twitter began its operations as an SMS based service. It just won’t *have* to be a 4 or 5 tweet response, but can be a single tweet responding adequately. Step 4: Click on post tweet button to publish it. Step 3: Once character limit reached, it shows in red color. Step 2: It displays Characters typed and Characters remaining in given text. This *might* clean things up a bit, but who knows.Ī point, then response, then response, etc. Following are the steps to use twitter character counter: Step 1: Simply type your text in character count tool text box. However, you wont be able to schedule longer tweets or save them as drafts. And this also applies to replies and quote tweets, so you wont have to worry about exceeding the 280-character limit or having to create threads. The main issue with threads, I guess, is just having to keep breaking stuff up, and all the sub-threads under a point part-way in a series and such. By subscribing to the paid version, the character limit for your tweets increases from 280 to 4,000. It’s easy to just post a short tweet challenging something, but often takes a lot more words, clarity, and data to rebut something. The new wall of text allows any sensible counter to be sunk below a sea of noise.įair point, but it runs the other way as well. Oh that's right threads allow for sensible debate as each point needs its own tweet and therefore counter points can address directly.
